Missing just one or two days of school per month may not seem like much, but those absences can quickly add up. Let’s look at the math!
There are 176 days (or 1,136 hours) per school year. Missing two days per month adds up to 18 days per year—that’s 120 total hours of instructional time. A student who is absent twice a month will miss at least 30 hours of math instruction and 30 hours of literacy instruction. By graduation, they will have missed 1.3 YEARS of school time in total.
Every school day is important. When a student misses even a few days of school, they’re losing valuable instructional time that can be difficult to recover. Let’s work together to make every day count this school year!
