IASBO Award

Marion Independent School District Business Manager Christie VanWey has been honored with the prestigious 2024 Iowa Professional Leadership Award from the Iowa Association of School Business Officials (IASBO).

IASBO Executive Director Mary Beth Fast presented Ms. VanWey with the award at the MISD Board of Education meeting on Monday, April 8, 2024.

This award is among the highest accolades in Iowa school business management, acknowledging professionals who have consistently demonstrated excellence in their service to schools and communities statewide.

As part of the award, Ms. VanWey will receive a $1,000 scholarship to bestow upon a Marion High School graduating senior, a personalized award to display in her office, and an invitation to the upcoming IASBO Leadership Conference.

Selection for the award is based on rigorous criteria, including demonstrated leadership in schools, commitment to professional development, active participation in the IASBO community, and significant contributions to the local community. It is given to school business officials who have made lasting contributions to improving educational environments, fostering community engagement, and elevating the standards of their profession.

In addition to her service to MISD, Christie has served as an IASBO regional director, presented at IASBO conferences, mentored her peers, and contributed to the IASBO Conference Planning and Emerging Leaders committees. She is also a graduate of the Iowa School Business Management Academy.

“Christie’s recognition by IASBO is a true reflection of her unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership in our business office,” said Dr. Janelle Brouwer, MISD Superintendent. “She is not only very good at what she does here in our district, but she has also had an amazing impact on our entire community through her service. We are incredibly proud of Christie’s achievements and fortunate to have such a dedicated school business professional and leader on our team.”

Locally, Christie has held positions on the Marion Chamber of Commerce board, led the Music Booster Club as a past treasurer and president, and coordinated the Marion Masquerade. In 2022, she was inducted into the Marion Performing Arts Hall of Fame for her service on the Music Booster board and her pivotal role in creating the Marion Masquerade Show Choir Contest.

MISD extends its heartfelt congratulations to Christie VanWey for this remarkable achievement and her continued dedication to excellence in school business, education, and community service. To learn more about IASBO, visit www.iowa-asbo.org.
